Be a world leader for one day with the Human security game.

Challenge: Human security challenge

As the world evolves, nations vie for dominance, implementing security measures to bolster their defencses and accrue capital for safe futures. The approaches vary, from prioritiszing strategic diplomacy to putting hard security measures first (intelligence, military, police). It all comes at a consequence…

Gameplay

Become a world leader, responsible to creating a society wherein your population feels safe. To do so, you need power to exercise your influence. You have ten years, and the objective is clear: To amass as much power as possible in that decade, so that you can ensure maximal security for your region. But beneath the surface lies a deeper issue, the pursuit of long-term sustainability. In addition, together with five other regions you must navigate the treacherous waters of limited resources, crises, conflicts, and international negotiations. What is wise to do?

Learnings

Through gameplay, discussions transcend the theoretical realm, delving into the very fabric of human security on individual and community levels.Echoing the dilemmas faced by world leaders, players learn to navigate crucial trade-offs between short-term regional interests and the elusive goal of long-term stability. They are immersed in the complexities of security issues, and prompted to reflect on individual decision-making and positioning in relation to others. They gain invaluable insights into the intricate dance of conflict and cooperation on both macro and micro levels and explore how to bridge the gap between the traditional ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ security sectors.

This challenge was developed in collaboration with Human Security Collective.

Target groups

Policy makers, security organiszations and stakeholders, students, human rights defenders, youth leaders, and others.
